Recipes of the World Guacamole Recipe

It is that time of the year that we have lots of avocados available. I thought I will add this recipe to make Guacamole.

2 ripe avocados
1 small onion
1 clove garlic
1 small tomato
1 1/2 Tablespoon lime juice (or juice of 1 fresh lime)
salt and pepper to taste

Peel avocados and remove the pit

Peel and mince the onion and the garlic

Chop the tomato.

Mash the avocado in a bowl (fun for the kids) and then stir in the remaining ingredients.

Delphi - Related Delphi Informant Fades to the Sunset

The following article was written by Bob Swart (aka Dr. Bob) regarding Delphi Informant Magazine.

Got a call a little while ago from the Editor of the Delphi Informant, Jerry Coffey. Since I'm a regular writer for the magazine, he called me to let me know that the magazine has published its last issue. Sad news indeed.

I remember getting the first issue of Delphi Informant at the SD '95 show where Delphi was launched. I subscribed immediately. It was cool that Delphi had it's very own magazine, along with the Pascal Magazine which soon became the Delphi Magazine. I still have that original version, as well as what I think is a complete collection of all the subsequent issues.

The loss of the Delphi Informant is a blow, to be sure. As it stands now, there is no regular Delphi magazine available in the US. You can get the Delphi Magazine, but you have to pay overseas postage (if I am not mistaken -- I'd love to be corrected on this) as they no longer have a US distributor. There's obviously a business opportunity for someone here in the states now. Hmmm.

I wonder how much the web has affected magazines like the Delphi Informant. I suspect that like many technical books, the web reduces the overall value of a physical magazine. There are so many good articles out there on the web that a monthly magazine probably has a hard time competing.

I was pretty stunned to get Jerry's call, so I didn't really get a chance to ask some of the questions that I have. For instance, what about the website? Could the magazine continue on as a webzine? What will become of all the excellent content on the current site? There are some really good nuggets of code in there. I remember the HTMLWriter classes by Keith Wood. What a thing of beauty they were. I still use them in a few utilities I have. Hopefully all that good content won't be taken off the web. I know that you can get a CD with all the stuff on it. I hope that those will continue to be for sale, now more than ever.

Well, at least my column lasted two whole issues! I had a third article submitted which I'll put up on my website. I probably will continue to write about Delphi and ASP.NET. Maybe I'll submit some of my work to non-Delphi specific journals and see the response I get.

Oh well. Delphi Informant had a good run.
